Who Makes The Largest Camping Tent Available?

Depending on what your needs are for a large tent there are a lot of different options.  If you are just looking for the largest camping tent possible then you would want to look at the base tent size and pick the largest size that you see available.

If you want to look at different tent features this guide is designed to help you decide which tent features you would want to have on your tent and which ones you may not need.

Sleeping Capacity

Depending on how large you want your tent to be there are different ratings based on the sleeping capacity that you will want to look at.  If you are looking for the largest tent possible you would want to be looking at a 10-person or 12-person capacity tent.

With a 10-person tent, it should be large enough to fit 10 people laying side by side.  You won’t be able to fit air mattresses to fit everyone though but based on what I am seeing on Coleman 10 person tents you should be able to fit 3 queen air mattresses in their 10 person tents.

Ozark Trails make tents with even larger sleeping capacities, it seems like the largest capacity tent looks to be up to 14 people max.  In searching for a 16-person tent it doesn’t look like any tent manufacturers make one.

Square Footage

If you are looking for the largest tent available you would also want to pay attention to the square footage of the tent.  The larger the footprint of the tent the more space you will have inside it for you and your family and friends. The larger the square footage of your tent the more room you will have to walk around, space for your camping gear, and sleeping area space.

Center Height

If you are going to be having a lot of people in your tent walking around you may want to pay attention to the center height of the tent that you end up going with.  The higher the center height of your tent the easier people would be able to maneuver around in it without getting in each other’s way. If you or another member of your party is tall you would also want to pay attention to the center height of your tent.

As a tall person, it’s not fun crawling around a tent or walking around hunchbacked inside of a tent.  With a taller center height, this is going to be less of an issue than it would with a short center height tent.

Most tents will list their center height in their specs so be careful to look out for that before you buy one. If they don’t list the center height of the tent you may want to look elsewhere.

Tent Shape

Along the lines of the center height of your tent, the shape of your tent will affect how easily you can get around inside of your tent.  In a dome tent, the walls of the tent will be shaped like a dome, it’s not as easy to get around inside of a dome tent because of this.

The other main style of tents is the cabin style.  A cabin style tent will have more vertical tent walls and will be more in the shape of a log cabin hence the name.  Because of the more vertical walls of the cabin tent, it makes it easier to stand upright in the tent and still get around fine.

If you are planning on being in your tent for extended periods or you just want to be able to stand in your tent easily you may want to look at getting a standing tent.

Storage Space

You will want to make sure that your tent has ample storage space for your other camping gear as well.  Most people typically don’t want to store their camping gear like clothes and electronics outside at their campsite.  It’s important that you get a tent with enough storage space in it for your camping gear and still have enough space to sleep in your tent at night.

Some tents will also come with storage pockets that can be used to store items in so that they stay off of the floor of the tent freeing up more space inside.  Most tents will also come with places that can be used to hang camping gear or lights inside of the tent. This is useful if you want to hang a camping tent light at the center of your tent ceiling to light up the interior of your tent at night.

More Tent Storage Space

Another way to have more storage space for your camping gear is to buy a tent with a vestibule.  A vestibule can be thought of as a front porch for your tent. A vestibule is typically screened in but will not be waterproof so you would not want to store items in it that could be damaged by water.

However, it is a good location to store other things that are fine to get wet like a cooler. A vestibule is also nice because it gives you an area to take off your shoes before you enter your tent so that you don’t track mud and dirt in with you when you enter your tent.

Divider Walls

If you are going to have multiple families sleeping in your large camping tent then you may want to look at getting a tent with divider walls.  These walls make it so that you can section off the inside of the tent to different rooms or areas so that you have some privacy. These walls will not be sound proof or anything like that but they will allow you to change or sleep in privacy.

Seasonality

Depending on what time of the year you plan on using your tent you would want to pay attention to the seasons that the tent is designed to be used in.

3-season tents are going to be the most common type of tent and are designed to be used in the spring, summer, and fall seasons.  Because of this, they are the most common type of tents because those are the main reasons that people go camping.

3-season tents will be able to handle somewhat cold temps but will not be designed to be used in heavy snowfall.  They can be used in the summer months with no problem, as they should still have adequate ventilation in them to keep them cool during the summer heat.

There are such things as 4-season tents that are designed to be able to be used in all seasons which are designed to be used in the dead of winter as well.  If you want to be able to take your tent out to camp in the winter months you would want to look at getting a 4-season tent.

4-season tents will be designed to be used in heavy snowfall during the winter months.  If you are going to be camping in cold weather a lot you may want to check out the other article that I wrote regarding selecting the best cold weather tent.

Who Makes the Largest Camping Tent Available? – Recommendations

1. Browning Camping Big Horn Two-Room Tent

This Browning Camping tent is going to be one of the largest tent options with a floor size of 15’ x 10’, it should have plenty of room for you and your family or friends.

Browning has this listed as an 8-person tent based on their infographic their reviews on Amazon, I would think that you would be able to get 2-3 air mattresses to fit in their comfortably though.

This Browning tent has a tall center height of 7 ft 3 in so it should be plenty tall for most people. This tent has two doors with an awning over each door to help keep rain from coming in through the tent doors.

2. CORE 10-Person Straight Wall Cabin Tent

CORE is one of the better tent manufacturers in the business and tailors their tents toward camping enthusiasts.  They design their tents to be used in adverse conditions and typically have a lot of features that are not found with other tent brands.

This tent is going to be large to be able to hold a lot of people, it says that it can hold up to two queen air mattresses or up to 10 people in sleeping bags.  It has a floor area of 14’ x 10’ so it’s going to be a pretty large cabin style tent.

It has a center height of 7 ft 2 in so it should be able to fit even the tallest of campers comfortably.  This tent also has a large mesh area which makes up the majority of the roof of the tent. It also has two doors for easy in and out access.

3. CORE 11-Person Cabin Tent with Screen Room

What I like about this tent is that is has a large screen room or vestibule to be able to store your things and take off your shoes before entering the tent.  This is going to come at a bit of expense to the size of the main area of the tent as the size of the cabin part of the tent is listed as 12’ x 10’.

So you would lose a couple of feet when compared to the other CORE tent listed.  The screen room of this tent is a decent size at 8’ x 7’. The center height is the same as the other CORE tent in this list as well with a center height of 7 ft 2 in.

This tent is advertised as being able to fit 3 air mattresses but I don’t see how that’s possible unless you are putting on in the screen room.  The screen room does look to be covered by the rain fly but the walls of the screen room are mesh so you would not want to sleep in the screen room if it is raining as you will probably get wet.

4. Coleman WeatherMaster 10-Person Tent

Coleman makes good products at a reasonable price point for the average consumer.  Their tents hold up pretty well over time but don’t expect them to be made from the best materials or have the most innovative features.

This Coleman tent is designed to fit up to 10 people in sleeping bags or up to 3 queen air mattresses.  It has a center height of 6 ft 8 in so it is also a pretty tall tent overall. Its base is measured at 17’ x 9’ so it should have plenty of room inside.  One thing that stands out on this tent is that it has a divider to allow you to break the tent up into two separate rooms.

This Coleman tent also is designed with a lot of features to help it resist rain and the wind. It has inverted seams, that hides the seams of the tent on the interior of the tent to keep them from getting wet in a rainstorm. Another nice feature is that it has a zipper cuff that is designed to fold over the zipper of the door to help keep water from getting in through the zipper of the tent.
